I've just bought a FMM diamond impression mat - and want to use it to make a quilted effect around the sides of a fondant covered. circular cake . My concern is that as i work around the cake, which will take a few times of impressing, that I won't get the pattern to match up as i move the mat on and it'll look irregular or overlap especially as I come back to the start.

has anyone used them and do you have any tips on this? would really appreciate any help- I'd like to do this on a christening cake this weekend but If I'm not confident I won't! thankyou!

those joins around the back often are wiggled a little so they fit but that's why there's 'the back' of the cake too--but if it is a 360 degree cake set in the middle of the action then think of something like a well placed ribbon-- a tiny flurry of tiny flowers--just anything to detract and lead the eye away from the 'un-join', the bit of pattern where it doesn't fit -- but untill you get there to the back--you do match it up as you go around--practice first of course

you could even not impress the final bit and just put some pearly swirls or something--but only if there's a true 'back' on the cake that will go up against the wall--or impress some flowers like the spine of a book kwim? but keep them lowkey in color--any little thing like that
