Hi, I tried using banana extract to flavor buttercream. It tasted like a melted banana now and later. Not horrible, but not what I was trying to accomplish. Would a lorann oil have a better taste? Can you flavor buttercream with instant puddding? I want just a little flavor. TIA

I just add a bit of banana extract to my buttercream...just gives it a nice, light "bananay" taste!

Unless you need pure white in color, toss in a (ripe but not overly ripe) banana. Nothing like the real thing. No need to mash; let the mixer do it for you. HTH

The banana extract wasn't bad, it was just too candy tasting. I wanted a more real flavor. I guess I overlooked the obvious. I will break down next time and use real food. icon_smile.gif

i wouldn't try instant pudding mix. The flavor is great, but it makes the BC grainy. Not just looking grainy, but it feels like eating sand in your mouth.

Are you using this for an icing or filling?? As an icing I would suggest Lorann, as a filling whip 2 c. of heavy whipping cream with instant pudding to make a mousse...yummy...

I don't like banana pudding, but a thin layer should be ok. My family LOVES banana pudding. I'm sure they would eat the leftovers.

Thanks

I agree with Mamafrogcakes the instant pudding mousse is terrific. I also add a some cubed up fresh bananas to the mousse and it is absolutely to die for.
