I have wedding on October the 8th and 4:00 in the afternoon. I just spoke with the bride today and the receiption is still outside. But, there will not be any tents, not even over the cake. I have to set up by about 2:30 with the receiption at around 4:00. She wants buttercream icing. Do I dare use buttercream. I live in South Texas and the temp has been around 100 lately that time of the day.

Should I insist on a tent for the cake table or do you think the buttercream will not melt. My fear is that I will set it up, go to the ceremony and come back to see all the icing on the table and not on the cake.

This will be the first outside wedding reception I have ever done.

Help... any suggestions or opinions???!!!???

Oh it will definitely melt in that heat .. insist that she have some place cooler for the cake .. I don't know of any icing that could take that kind of heat.

gma1956 I would insist on the cake being someplace else. There is no way that cake will make it outside. I live in N.Texas and I have problems with my BC INSIDE, can't even imagine outside! October isn't going to be that much better temp. wise for us either.
Good luck to you!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dont do it!
My pooh cake was for a park and that day it was 98 degrees and after a couple of hours it melted....they didnt have a cover or anything... and were in no hurry to cut it either.....

I got an order of of it still from an early guest and then made hers out of fondnt whihc stood up better in the heat ... and then I got another order from there from someone that was at both parties... she asked "can my cake be like the one that didnt melt"
I wanted to laugh so hard !!
