ASo I've never used richs bettercream, but I'm making a cake for my nieces birthday that will sit out all day so I'm hoping to use it. I need to airbrush several colors but I am wondering if that would work? Has anyone airbrushed on richs bettercream before? I want to use amerimist metallic colors. Would the shine even show up? Any answers are very much appreciated.

In my experience, pearls and shimmers work better on butter creams than regular colors. (I use Chef Rubber peals & lusters - they have alcohol as an ingredient which speeds up the evaporation of the liquid part of the color).

Whatever you use, just be patient and build up color slowly - the more water in the color, the faster it will bead. 3 light layers is going to look better than 1 heavy one.

And expect the colors to be absorbed and spread. Great for blending, not so great if the design needs to have detail.

If your worried about the results, spread a thin layer of butter cream on a cutting board, prop it up at an angle and take a test drive.

AIt's going to be a rainbow colored cake so the color spreading wouldn't hurt it I think. Thank you so much for the reply. I think I will try it out on a dummy before the actual cake.

AWould frostin pride work better for this?

I work mainly with fondants and gumpaste... so I'm not as familiar with the different brands of frosting.

That being said - each brand and recipe will have it's own unique characteristics (and foibles) when we airbrush.

That's the fun of experimentation!
