Guys, I've got a request for several hundred cookies, "simple, not frosted, just baked on sprinkles, cheap for kids" they want. BUT after 25* years as a professional pastry chef guess what? I've never made cookies like that and even had to google it just to figure out what the guy meant!     I'm feeling pretty dumb. Not sure why, but I don't think I've even noticed them at bakeries I've shopped at............. I don't have kids....so maybe I just never notice cookies with sprinkles on them.

So could someone be kind enough to steer me toward a good recipe and some guidance on what's expected here, please? What do kids want?

Is it just a sugar cookie dipped in sprinkles than baked? Or do you slightly flatten the cookie dough, brush it with egg white and than bake? Do you think butter cookie or sugar cookie?

I just bake my favorite sugar  cookie recipe and sprinkle with the sprinkles before placing them in  the oven. I wouldn't do an egg wash unless that is what your favorite cookie recipe calls for before baking. The other very easy way to do this would be bake your cookies, then lightly frost...could use white frosting or tint with color. After frosting put your sprinkles on. I prefer to put a little icing on the cookie before the sprinkles...I think the sprinkles "stick" to the cookie better. Also, I'm not foo fond of the "naked" look of a cookie with only sprinkles on it. Just my opinion...Good Luck !

AMaybe they meant a cookie with baked IN sprinkles? Like the sprinkles in the dough? That way, it will come out pretty and all rainbow spotted. I dunno how it would look if you just baked them on top... kind of messy looking?

AJust Googled it - confetti cookies! You can sprinkle them on top and bake or put them in the dough before rolling out and bake. Both ways looks good :) If you sprinkle them on top, I would suggest doing it just after rolling out the dough and doing one last roll after the sprinkles, just to press them into the dough so they don't roll around everywhere (if they are cut out sugar cookies).

Very easy :)

One way to  add sprinkles, or non-pariels to baked cookies is to  paint the cookies with thinned corn syrup.

It's almost as much work as spreading some simply glaze icing on top.

I have always just put the sprinkles on the cookies before baking, no egg wash.  Works fine.

Really, what Annie said.  Cut out your cookies and sprinkle on whatever: sugar, colored sugar, sprinkles or jimmies.  It all attaches in the oven as it  bakes on top.  Don't over think this one.  They want it to be easy for you  and them.

Ah, now that seems like the best answer! Thank-you all, for your help!

AI roll my cookie dough into balls then lightly press them into the sprinkles then place them on the cookie sheet. It keeps the sprinkles from going everywhere.!
