I'd like to make these cupcake toppers in MMF since they will be eaten and many prefer the taste over regular fondant but I have heard that it's not so great to work with and since I have little experience with fondant I am asking you guys. What should these be made of: reg. fondant, marshmallow fondant, modeling chocolate, or something else?

Also do I need tons of shape cutters for these or are there just a few that have been manipulated? I only have a few and really haven't found a whole lot at my local cake shops either. TIA

AI use marshmallow fondant all the time. I don't think it would be a problem to do these in marshmallow fondant. Modeling chocolate would also work fine, as long as the weather isn't too hot (or you'll have ac).

I would use modeling chocolate but that's just my preference. I've made some animal cupcake designs that are more 3D but similar enough examples of how to make such a decoration using modeling chocolate and piped buttercream. In this case I found the modeling chocolate to be helpful because it's easier to sculpt with so I had more time to get the details right. Anyone have any tips on how I should go about the hippo head? Is there a shaped cutter I should use or do I have to cut it by hand and then play with the ears? I don't know much when it comes to fondant. Oh and do I just use water to stick all the pieces together and then let it dry?

Add the meringue powder to the MMF after melting the marshmallows? I am assuming this will keep it firmer? Thank you :-)
