AI am making 300 farmyard animal cupcakes for my husbands 30th. I want to make the animal cupcake toppers early I started tonight using sugarpaste, I know they need to dry out so I have them sat on bubble wrap on a single layer, I want to know if I can put another layer of bubble wrap on top the first layer to store another layer or will they sweat??

Thanks Lindsay

I think as long as you don't completely seal the layers of bubble wrap they may be ok to do like that, probably depends on the humidity in your area though.

I would be careful with bubble wrap. Plastic does not allow for air circulation and at the very least, it will probably slow down the drying process. Worst case, the bottom of your toppers may stick to it. And if you start layering them on top of each other, they might stick to the top, as well. I have had my toppers stick to bubble wrap in the past (which is why I caution you). It may also depend on the humidity, but I think it's a little risky. I dry all of my toppers on foam squares I purchase at Hobby Lobby. They are inexpensive and allow for good air flow, which leads to a complete dry with no sticking :)

I hope this helps :D

AI wouldn't use bubble wrap. I also had gumpaste stick to it. I went and bought a cheap foam mattress topper. The smallest I could find. Cut it into four sections. I lay my gumpaste figures, flower petals etc. in the little little round circles in between the cones of foam. Works great. When not in use, I roll up and keep stored in a garbage bag to keep clean & free of dust, hair etc.

AOk thanks, so I have now moved then onto parchment paper, I am in the UK so no need to worry about humidity! Would it better better to let them dry out in a single layer, and then once dried stack them in a cardboard box between layers of parchment??

Thanks Lindsay

AYes Lindsay Dry your gumpaste elements in one single layer. I made about 20-30 small pom pom flowers for a cake and the party got cancelled. Well I wasn't going to throw all my hard work away. I put the flowers in a airtight plastic container. Layer srunched paper towel on the bottom of container and put in flowers. Then scrunched waxed paper on top of the 1st layer of flowers and laid more flowers o the waxed paper. If there laid carefully, and fully dry, short of dropping the container, they shouldn't break. :o)
