Hi everyone,

Very busy week setting up appointments and starting to hash our party plans. Just one order of cupcakes tho.

The party colors were pink and brown. Not my favorite but whatever the client wants the client gets. I almost forgot to take a photo till we were walking out of the door so this was a quick one! LOL!

This upcoming week brings work on a 2 tier Daniel Tiger Cake. I'm working with edible transfers and can only hope they work out as well as they have before. Unfortunately I won't get photos before the cake is transported since some of the decorations are little figurines that I won't get till the time of the party. So I'll take photos then and share when we get back home again.

Hope everyone has had a great week!

Hi Morgan,

What a delicate looking cake! What was the event?  And, yes, I talked to my nephew, who invited me to the networking group and he had me talk to the person who founded the group and both conversations about the crazy lady really helped. I have, of course, not received payment yet from her, but that, too, will be handled by the founder for me next week. It's just ridiculous that I'd have to go to these lengths and that they might actually kick her out of the group for it. SIGH. Such drama. Don't need that.

ARight! Life is stressful enough, don't need any extra. And it was for an 8 year old girls birthday party. I'm always surprised about how big the budgets are for kids parties!

Hi Cat, I feel like its been forever since I've popped in.  Wish I could have one of those scrumptious looking cupcakes right about now. lol

I can see I've missed out on alot. Might have to go back a few weeks to catch up.

Morgan, what a beautiful cake.  Love the coloring.

I've been doing double duty with a friend and fellow caker.  Sorry to say, I didn't really enjoy the experience.  I can really appreciate being my own boss and in control of how things are run.

I won't pile on the pics of all the cakes I've one.  Frozen is the hottest them right about now and almost every order seems to be that one.

I"ve also been jumping into the new trend with wafer paper.  Now that I love!  The skies the limit.  Here are a few pics.

had this wedding cake last week.  Guess you can see Gold seems to be a favorite this week, lol

And a small simple Olaf cake for Wednesday.

Hi Ginn!

Welcome back! Sorry to hear your collaboration didn't work out! I'm not sure how well I'd work with another caker. I have a feeling it might be very awkward.

So how do you use wafer paper. It looks gorgeous!  I'm sure Frozen is very big right now. I have a feeling that will be what my granddaughter will want this year for her birthday too<G> I have a great "liquid gold" paint for cakes but it is a lot of work. Your golden cake is gorgeous but that had to take forever!

love,

Cat

Thank you Cat.  Glad its behind me know.  Was supposed to be temporary but she wanted to keep going and 2 heads usually just butt, lol

The gold is very easy to use.  I have Americolor Airbrush gold.  I refer the bright brassy one, but can only find it in a luster powder.  Which do you have?  I don't think I could hand paint it on anymore, now that I've been spoiled with the airbrush, lol  The total time I spent on airbrushing including drying time for the 3 tiers was 1 hour.

My precious great-grandaughter will be having an Olaf them in July, I want to do him standing as in structure, We'll see, lol

Wafer paper is super easy, I found a print I liked, ran it thru the edible printer, cut and applied. Done!  There are tons of tutorials on the different flowers with wafer paper and drying time is next to none, so its fast.  I bought the craftsy class and that helps.

Hi guys its been a while for me but I have been following. Its been good to see lots of new faces(?) joining in.  Gin, I absolutely love your wafer paper cake.  I have been thinking about trying it and now I will definitely give it a go.  My big cake for this week was for my sons birthday.  I did a playboy cetrefold (like in the Debbie Brown book).  It has a towel draped descreetly over the nether regions but the boobs are showing so I won't post it here in case anyone is offended.  It is in the naughty cake section, though I personally don't think it is particularly objectionable.  These 2 cakes I did over the last couple of months.  Both were just practice pieces. Practicing with 'Onlays'

This one was practicing with my new 'Onlay'.  Not quite as easy as it looks on the video site.  The back of the cake is nowhere near as neat as the front, but who cares cos the inside was passionfruit, white chocolate mud cake with white chocolate ganache and was absolutely delicious.
This was me attempting stencilling and getting so frustrated that I gave up and tried this effect.  The top is stencilled, I didn't have any problems on the flat but the curves defeated me.  It is just a dummy.  It's been quite a while since I had a piping bag in my hand so this was a bit of an effort.

I had just one cake to do this week, for a friend's son's first birthday.  She wanted a Raa Raa the Noisy Lion cake and I have come to realise that I really don't like doing cartoon/childish designs!  She wanted a cake she found on Pintrest, so I pretty much copied it:

Modelling choc decorations. Based on a design by Iced Indulgences.

I made all the decorations from modelling chocolate - my second batch, as I threw my first batch (made with 1kg of chocolate) into the bin when I was doing a clear out, thinking it was hardened up marzipan!  I could have cried, and very much was tempted to rummage around in the rubbish to rescue it...

I don't have any cakes now until my friends' wedding cake on the 22nd May, so I will be practising making and colouring butterflies with my Patchwork cutters.  Any hints?  I actually tried making one with modelling choc and it worked really nicely.  But I've never heard of anyone using it for that.  What do you think?

Happy Saturday morning everyone. I'm up WAY too early for two client meetings back to back. Actually the first one is a client meeting the second one a vendor meeting and then we will be off to our son's baseball game. Gonna be one hectic day!

To catch up: Ginn, no, I don't have an airbrush. Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas this year. Just an extra toy for me. I don't see that I'd use it a lot but in your case, with all of that gold, I sure would appreciate it! LOL!  The gold I use is a luster dust but it mixes up to look like liquid gold. Better than anything I've been able to find previously. Costs a mint tho'

I imagine that I'll be making a background cake when it comes to the Frozen for my granddaughter. She likes Olaf but it's all about the Princesses to her! LOL! So I'll do the background cake and get her the figurines. Right now it's the yearly struggle to get her from her father on the day that we can have the party. They are in another city and we are going to be there on one of "his" weekends and he never ever wants to trade. It won't even be her actual birthday but he doesn't care. If it means cooperation with anyone else then he's totally against it. Yup, it's like that.

Cazza, I love both cakes. I'm not sure what you mean by stenciling on that second cake but it's gorgeous. So did you use some sort of cutter for the first one? Are they lines that you then lined up on the cake or did you use a machine to cut out a sheet? Very interesting and pretty!

Natt, I love all of your cakes but the Petrol station is my favorite. My dad ran "gas" stations his whole life as either the manager or the repair manager so I'm rather partial to that one.

Lizzie, your cake is adorable. I don't mind doing kids cakes but am very tired of explaining why I don't do copyrighted cakes. The one I'm doing next week is for my own grandson so I can get away with the Daniel Tiger transfer but I have 3 this year scheduled where I had to go over the need for a background cake and they provide the figures because of the copyright thing. However I love making animal figures! I just got a baby's 1st b'day where I get to make a baby giraffe and I was giddy all day over it. I do not like making people figures. I suck at it and the client always wants it to look like their little one and it's just too much pressure. I adore your Alligator down in the water...made me laugh!

Well, I'm off....have a great weekend!

ABeautiful cake! Did you use fondant or buttercream? And one more question, how did you achieve the design on the side of the cake?

Beautiful, beautiful cakes on here this week!  Auntginn, I especially love that first one you posted.  Is that wafer paper on the bottom tier?  It looks sooo pretty!  Love it.  All the cakes are wonderful, but that one's my favorite.  Morgan, beautiful cake, too.  Love the soft look of it.  Cazza both of those cakes are stunning.  I always have a hard time making sure the back looks as nice as the front.  But those cakes are stunning.  Natt, that is a perfect first birthday cake.  Great job!  You did a great job on the other three, too.  The petrol one must have taken you some time to get done.  It's perfect!  Lizzie, beautiful cake.  I haven't tried working with modeling chocolate yet; it's on my "to practice" list.  Everyone seems to rave about how good it is, so must give it a try.  Cat, where can I get my cupcake?  That looks delicious!  I always look forward to this forum.  Such wonderfully beautiful cakes are shown.

Gerle,  I love using modelling choc for things like this where I need lots of little bits of different colours.  It doesn't harden up irrevocably like fondant or gumpaste, so what ever doesn't get used for the current project can be stored for the next time.  A little warmth and kneading, and it's fine to use again.  I also like the taste much better - it's more like eating a sweetie than a bit lump of sweet rubbish.  Also, it is much easier to get a smooth finish, and more forgiving - I removed the monkey's legs when it came time to put him on the cake and molded them more to fit over the edge, rather that straight out.  I'm definitely a fan of it for this!

Kat, the first cake is done with a silicone 'Onlay'.  You lay your doctored fondant across it and it cuts the pattern when you press down with a rolling pin and then you  hold it up against your cake and peel the silicone off.  The second cake was done with cutters and then piped in between.  The stencilling was soooooo bad that I scraped it all off.

Thank you everyone for your support. I am seeing or maybe its just me, that I do better with tiered cakes rather than the figures and carved. But I sure want to get better at them.

Cazza those are so stunning.  I have just started learning how to stencil and I would love to get some of those onlays but haven't yet.

Yes the bottom tier of my cake was wrapped with Wafer paper I printed.  That part was super easy.
