hello,
please advise me on the look of this cake. I am interested in the down part. Is it fondant or gum paste mixed with fondant makes it look like a dress? And my bride asked for super tall bottom, so I will have a dummy and then a tire of a real cake covered with fondant ruffles...I was thinking if fondant covers dummy will hold the heaviness of the ruffles as it does not stick well on dummy by itself? and the bow... i am afraid it will not hold during the transportation period... Please, advise me what is the best way to keep it safe?
Thank you.
I did a cake similar to this (see pic) recently and I just used fondant (no gumpaste mix) although I think you could use both. In this cake (in case you can't really see it) there are 3 layers of pleats. A pasta machine would be recommended as you are able to get thin, even pleats which will help with the weight. I just adhered pleats to cake with edible sugar glue and it held up great.
Good luck!
