Hi everyone!

Hope your week has gone well! I'm fighting off bronchitis so it's been a week in bed for me. It's a good thing I don't have anything due till next weekend! Looking forward to seeing your cakes this week!

Practicing making buttercream ruffles.  I have a niece who wants a cake with ruffles and I haven't tried them before.  I made a ruffle cake for here at the house and didn't like the way they turned out, so I'm trying to find a better way to do them.  I haven't done the ruffles before (I always get vertical and horizontal mixed up, but I think it's horizontal ruffles I need to make).  She also wants 2 ruffle flowers near the top of the cake, but still on the side, so I need to practice both.  I have time, thank goodness, because she doesn't want the cake until April 4th.  I tried the tip 104, but I guess I don't have the right movement in my hands/wrist because they just looked funny.  I practiced on the side of a bowl, too, because I didn't want to bake another cake to practice.  I also tried what is called a ruffle tip, a 402, and it looked even worse!  I'm hoping to get it right soon.  So many new techniques out there that I want to try and not enough time!  I've also been puppy sitting.  My youngest son got an 8 week old Australian shephard but due to his work hours, I've been having the puppy for the past couple of weeks off and on.  Cute, fuzzy little guy and so smart!  He's learning tricks easily and loves to play with our 5-year old springer.  It's kind of hard to practice when dealing with a little puppy, but he's been fun!

I always hit youtube whenever I can't get a technique down...I watch all of the videos on the technique just in case one of them shows me something I missed, good luck with it!

Puppies are a challenge but a fun one!

That was my thought, too.  I have tomorrow without the puppy so I plan on getting online and seeing what I can find on YouTube.  And yes, puppies are a handful but it's so fun to watch them grow and learn so quickly!  He's already so much bigger than the first time I saw him!  My son brought him over right after he picked him up, and he's already almost twice the size he was then!  Only problem is he LOVES to be outside but he's too young to leave out there by himself, so not much gets done when he's here!  And with this rain....I've given up mopping my floors when he's around!

Yes, we did get a massive amount of rain yesterday but blue skies this morning. We could seriously use a few more rain storms like that one. I have a 12 year old boy...same as your puppy...wants to be outside (especially when it was hailing!) and brings the mess back in with him.

We normally have an Oscar Party but this year the money for it fell apart so we decided to take a year off...SOOO happy now that we did. I'm better this morning but still in the weak kitten stage...not up to making all that needs to be made to throw a party and host guests! But I've been dying to make these caramel cupcakes so I may give those a whirl. If they turn out well I'll post them on Friday!

Have a great week!

I don't blame you for wanting to take a year off from the Oscar party.  You're better off getting your strength back and feeling much better before trying to be hostess to guests.  We really needed the rain and I'm glad it was here, but what we need more is a really good COLD storm to generate more snow!  If we don't get that snowpack to have all the runoff from it melting, we're still going to be in trouble this summer.  It could be cold and snowy up in the mountains without it being too wet here and I just wish it would happen.  I'm starting to get really concerned about the water situation for this year.  This is the worst it's been in a very long time.

Well Cat, I hope you enjoy a quiet, relaxing weekend so you can get your strength back.  Take care and enjoy the sun while you can.  Supposedly we're supposed to get rain through tomorrow and then cloudy for 2 days.  Will see what happens!

I love both of them! The tiny LV bags crack me up! Perfect! Oh, and the 12 year old in my house gives the Minecraft cake a BIG thumbs up!

This week has been the turn of the dummy - I have a wedding fayre tomorrow and had no display cakes (I work from home) and so I had to do something to take with me so....

Made on 6'' and 8'' dummies for a wedding fayre. Rose made of fondant with tylose, painted using regular gel colours and piped with royal icing to create solder effect.

Made on 6'' and 8'' dummies as a display for a wedding fayre.

Wizard of Oz themed wedding cake including Munchkin Land, the Dark Forest, the poppy fields and the Emerald City and complete with Witch crushed by a house!
