Hello there, My brother and sister in law are going to meet her brother that is coming home from Afghanistan. She wants me to make the cake but I am not going with them and i am worried it wont make it. I know there are plenty of threads on cake delivering but all of them the baker is going with the cake. I would like to know if anybody had pointers on a two tiered cake traveling three hours to his location. Its a 8' round and a 6' round all fondant with fondant boots and a flag which I figured they could put the boots on when they go there.

Make sure you have proper supports in place, give them instructions on storing it and as you said, transport anything susceptible to falling off separately and I'm sure you will be fine.  Depending on the type of cake, maybe you could give them a mini-repair kit?  I did that once for a friend who collected a cake which has a lot of little blossoms on it - thankfully she didn't need it but I gave her a piping bag with a little bit of royal icing in it just in case.  In a few months, I have a customer collecting a wedding cake which they are then driving 4 hours down to the depths of south west UK...the roads there are terrible!  Still, hoping if it's boxed securely, doweled slightly more than needed then it will hopefully be fine (says she praying to the caking god...) :-) x
