AHi I've entered into a cupcake competition that is in about 2 weeks time. The event is over 3 days, Friday-Sunday and competitors have been asked to bring along their cupcakes early Friday morning. These will then be on display until Sunday afternoon when prizes are awarded. I'm making fondant toppers but I'm worried that by Sunday they'll have gone moist and shiny. Any advice?
I am starting to make the toppers now so they'll harden a bit.
((I work with fondant quite a bit (as a hobby) but I don't add anything to it. I've never really had to worry about this before because when I've made fondant toppers for cupcakes in the past, I'll just pop them on the frosting and send the order out. They're usually eaten same day or the day after so I've had no complaints about fondant flopping and going shiny. ))
Thanks in advance :-)
If you are placing them on top of buttercream, then yes, they will wilt. To combat this, you can put a thin layer of melted chocolate on the underside where-ever it will touch, and that will act as a barrier to the moisture. Don't keep them in airtight boxes, either.
