Hi, I have been asked by a friend to make a chocolate football/soccer ball cake. I have made the ball by stacking cakes and carving into shape. Now she wants a red and white ball, she also wants me to pipe the hexagons and pentagons. could you please recommend an icing that will be nice and white but will also be easy to colour red. Thank you in advance xx

AAny basic buttercream recipe will do. Getting red cab be tricky, just remember that color deepens as it sits so try to do it some days in advance so the color doesn't get too dark on you.

If you absolutely positively want the icing to be white white white you can use shortening. I've read that if you decide to use all butter you can add a touch of violet to cancel out the yellow tint butter provides

Hi Morganchampagne, Thank you for responding to my post, wow I never knew that about violet. It has to be ready Saturday so I think I had better colour today lol.
