I am taking on a pretty big project for my son's 3rd bday. I plan on making a toy story themed cake with woody, jessie, and buzz. I have never made any people and needed a littl bit of help from you guys. All these characters will be about 10 inches tall. What should i use that will harden well, but also allow me enough time to figure out how to make them. I have read on here MMF with tylose... or 50/50 fondant and gumpaste. Woodie will be standing, buzz will be coming out of the side of the cake and jessie will be sitting. Any suggestions? better yet, has anyone ever made these characters and give me some useful advice. I also want to know how you guys get your figures to have such a smooth look to them.

Thanks!!!

So far the only major thing i have made is this Converse shoe. *

AHi, I usually use 50/50 gum paste + modeling chocolate. Or 100% gum paste ( or 100% modeling chocolate) The 50/50 recipe works better for me. It's allow you to create your character as long as you need, but when you put you figure aside it will harden fast. For Woodie figure I suggest you to use skewer, toothpicks and flower wire #16 – 18. For sitting figure you don't need to use central skewer, but toothpicks would be usefull as well ( for arms, body and head to hold it together ) To avoid "heavy head" helps styrofoam balls.

If you still have questions about modeling, so you are welcome to ask.
