I'm not sure if this qualifies as a cake disaster as it was not technically cake, but very irritating anyway!

I went into the loft to get my (fully iced and decorated) cake dummies down as I have a wedding fair in a couple of weeks. I knew I wanted to re-do a couple, but 4 would have been good to go.

That is if they hadn't all got damp and were completely ruined :(

I've just spent a very disheartening afternoon soaking 6 3+ tier wedding cakes in the bath to get the icing off. On top of that, the two full peonies I made for display - both about 5 inches across and several hours work - also suffered and are kaput too. I may be able to save the centre portions and just re-do the outer petals, but I doubt it. This is not to mention the expense of buying kilos and kilos of sugarpaste, and all the ruined decorative elements (I'll be buying a couple more books of silver leaf then...) 

Oh well, I guess I need to look at it as an opportunity to try new designs and fix bits that I wasn't happy with (not that anyone else noticed them, but you know how you can ONLY see the bits you did wrong when you're working on a design!).

Off to work I go then :(

Thank you :) I'm feeling better today, got all my new bits of decorating stuff together and ready to play!  

Today I'm starting the task of cutting out around a thousand individual wings for butterflies for a 3 tier cascade. I remember it being pretty tedious the first time round, so I think this calls for copious tea and some good telly :) Then I'm looking for inspiration for some new designs (aka procrastinating on here reading the 'your worst cake' posts) :)

ABoo pants! :-( our loft is the same! I think its 'cos the insulation is flat on the loft floor so the loft is more like a big outside shed than a part of the house- even stored boxes go weak and floppy up there... I'm thinking of insulating and plasterboarding the eaves and making it a propper store room..... alas instead I too read the worst cake post instead :-)

Hope you find some good inspiration, I find it tough to get stuck in if I'm not super excited about the design.... do you like Ombre designs? I love the pastel to white ones :-)

Lol, it's really not a great idea to get the computer out at all when you need to be busy is it :D

I like your idea of insulating the eaves - that's one to drop on hubby when he thinks he's going to have a free weekend :D

I love the Ombre designs, I was toying with the idea of doing a girly ruffle one, but as you say it's tricky to get going when you're not completely into it!
