How Much Would It Cost To Have This Cake Made?

A[quote name="howsweet" url="/t/767143/how-much-would-it-cost-to-have-this-cake-made/90#post_7476285"]Or 5x5x5. My tiers are now 5 inches high and I don't charge extra for
Why not?? Weather it be more cake , filling or icing why not charge for it? ?
I wanted this design in a cake that would feed 150 to make it more clear. Yes, I also mentioned that to the baker when sending her the photo. She's the one who gave me the quote, and told me she'd use her usual 16", 12" 8". After getting all the advice on here I have informed the baker I will not be going with her. I will choose someone who can hopefully give me more accurate information. I want this design in a cake that will feed 100-115 (As mentioned above I revised our list to need less cake). I never once said she was charging too much was just curious why she would change her price after seeing the photo with no explanation. I figured she could do this design in the tiers she mentioned she would use, that is all. :)
faishay, you've unknowingly stepped into one of the most controversial topics on this site.
now you're armed with good information, so that you can get what you need and hopefully what you want.

OP's original statement was that some of the responses were a tad rude. You replied that some responses were ignorant and rude. I'm just trying to figure out which responses (before you made that statement obviously) you consider "ignorant", and why. It's a simple question.
AMaybe those were the only sized square pans she has-the most ridiculous part is that you gave her a guest count and she's trying to sell you more cake then you need.
As stated above, many red flags with this baker!
You do get what you pay for, so consider the great advice you've received about going with a certified baker that knows what they are talking about! We are all on a budget, but I'd hate for you to place an order and end up with a cake full of cat hair or something that's inedible.
Many people think I can make a cake, jump into business then they come on her asking how to do this design or complaining about a cake disaster. They don't know the first thing about pricing. Check out CakeWrecks.com, they have section after section with pictures of 'what the bride asked for' vs 'what she got'.
I live in a very small town, in rural IL this would be about $4.50/serving more depending on flavors & fillings. If you don't want the border (the 'dots' around the bottoms of each tier) a good baker can 'caulk' with BC but this does take longer then a quick border. Most of my pricing is based on time & complexity of design.
I've done this cake several times and my take on it is that I could never do this cake in buttercream because the ribbons need to be held tightly from point to point and moistened with water so they'll stick to fondant - so that they and won't warp or buckle or sink into soft icing. So I'm thinking that she also might know that buttercream won't do it and she needs to use fondant? Have you looked at her other cakes..........at $5.00 per serving X 150 I wouldn't charge anything under $750, then there's a delivery charge and table set up or rental of the cake plateau.................

I assume she never said anything to you about making that top tier an 8 inch cube...

Ok now I have a question about the cake that is in the picture.....it looks like the top tier is a square all the way around. .right?? It looks to be roughly 6 inches high so the other two tiers are as high as that top tier, right? So when the Op asked the first baker how much for a three tier square cake is and she got a quote than the baker saw the picture and realize its a totally different cake than just a three tier cake and thats why she changed her quote. ..so is each tier 6 high?? Or whatever the size of that top tier is??
One other thought for the OP: You will be supplying the ribbon and flowers, but are going to attach them, or will the decorator be doing that? It may looks simple, but it takes a bit of skill.
I don't know if this has been said yet, since I am just now joining back in, but this same effect could be done as 4" high tiers if the tiers are smaller, a 4, 7, and 10, would look just like that. I'm not convinced it isn't those sizes, actually :-) That would be 82 servings, for me. If I did that size, I would suggest an kitchen cake, for extra servings, just in case. Or a couple dozen cupcakes, or even brownies or something.

That's what I said and two people disagreed siting even a third other person's opinion. So then at the top of this page, I was like, well it could be 5x5. But if i were to vote, 4-7-10 would be mine.

Was she the other person? Honestly I don't see how you can tell for sure, but I'm going with 4 in. Maybe we can takes bets and locate the person who made the cake and get a definitive answer hahahha
AI was just trying to say hey the cake in the picture looks like all the cakes are what looks to be something like 6 inches high that makes for more cake and maybe thats the reason the baker changed her price. ..thats all I was saying...

No, I didn't. I said it COULD be. It could also be a 4x4x4, or a 5x5x5.

..lol right it could but your first thoughts as you wrote were looks like a 6x6x6 ...All im saying is the baker probably saw the picture and said oh no thats more cake and more work...my price has now changed...thats all im saying....
But she didn't because she said she was going to do an 8x8 on top, not a 6x6. I don't think she was going to make it 8x8x8. But it was a good thought. Unfortunately, sometimes there's just no sense to be made of something.
AThe op said she was going with a 8 on top...true but she failed to tell the baker that its a cube on top so the baker didnt know it was a cube until she saw the photo...anything bigger than a 6 imo would look odd...so if the op wants a 8 imo its gonna look odd

My first thoughts were, "it's looks like a 4x4x4, a 7x7x4 and 10x10x4, but I'm NOT going to be the one to start that sh!t storm, since so any bakers don't even have odd sized pans nor do they do tiers that small, and it isn't enough servings anyway."

No, please don't quit your day job because your mind reading skills are sorely lacking. I resent words being put into my mouth, ask my x husband.

That's so funny, because I thought the same thing , except it was more like, I don't want to start another #$@% storm.

THIS :D
ARoflmco. That was a fun twisty ride.
I'm sure you don't need the recap, but I will offer one last quote for comparison. I would do a 6", 9", 12" which I say serves 115. I would do buttercream frosting and insist on fondant bands (if you insisted real ribbon it would have to be fondant). I would use 4 layers and the tiers would be 4-4 1/2" tall (unless you really wanted higher). I would charge $603.50 before tax & delivery.

This is the point where this post should have been flagged and LOCKED. Because I'm not reading page after page of "you were rude!" "no they were rude!""oh this was rude!" "you are soooo rude!" "I wasn't rude but I'll be rude now" and whatever rubbish you adults seem to love to banter about.
By calling someone "rude" you DERAIL THE ENTIRE THREAD and everyone from there on out goes on and on for pages talking about RUDE.
Did someone fart? Insult your religion? Call you a racist came - or any name at all besides "rude"? No? Then someone somewhere needs to learn to google waht RUDE means.
I don't care if this was the most important topic in the universe, it is now LOCKED and comments past the 1st page are being deleted.
