I'm planning on making a 3 tier cake for my parents on their anniversary.

Everywhere we go we see rosettes, vines, swirled roses, ruffles... and the list goes on.
I want something that is NOT floral, doesn't have flowers yet looks absolutely fantastic. Any pictures or link or even ideas that might help me?
I really want a break from all the flowers.
They're pretty but this time no, just no- I NEED something different. Help :-(

ADo they have any common interests, hobbies they do together? That's the question I usually ask when a 'non-conventional' cake is needed. I then make a mind map on paper and write down all the things associated with it and the design will develop from there.

I have just uploaded a pic of a cake I made last weekend if that helps - all edible jewels and dragees, not a flower in sight - http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3160193/a/3437436/all-edible-jewels-and-dragees/sort/display_order/

Do you have any ideas of themes or items you'd like to incorporate in the design?

AThe jewel cake is really pretty, but dads don't like bling bling much. The URL by Shanter were really helpful :)

Charm city cakes look fabulous, but replicating them would be rather difficult for a teen novice baker like me :(

The drapes cake is nice, especially the colour, mom and dad both love shades of teal :D

Thanks everyone :)

I think everybody here is ignoring the elephant in the room:

WHICH anniversary is it, and WHAT IS THE TRADITIONAL GIFT for it? And what OTHER SIGNIFICANCE is there to the number?

For example, consider the 55th anniversary. The traditional gift is emeralds. I couldn't afford emeralds, but I bought a long, narrow picture frame, a simple triptych matte to fit it (or maybe the matte came with the frame), and some metallic emerald green spray lacquer, and put a band of emerald green around the inner edge of the picture frame. Then I made up a triptych of 3 sepia-toned prints of their wedding pictures, and assembled it as their gift. The cake, on the other hand, featured an edible print of a 55 MPH speed limit sign (obviously, any American celebrating that wedding anniversary would be old enough to remember the federal 55 MPH fuel conservation speed limit, from the 1970s.)

For their 52nd wedding anniversary, I did a "playing cards" theme (52 cards in a standard U.S. deck). I didn't bake them a cake, but if I'd had access to edible printing at the time, I'd have probably used the same design for the cake as I did for the card I made for them: "King" and "Queen" playing cards, with their faces from their wedding pictures superimposed over the faces at one end, and from the most recent good pictures of them on the other end. And I gave them a deck of playing cards, with restaurant gift cards (for $52 each) inserted into the deck without breaking the seal on the package (difficult!).

Oh, and if something exceeds your piping skills, remember: edible printing is NOT just for photographs!

The 'marvelous molds' website has some geometric style molds that are really interesting.
