Deer head antlers

Thread Starter

Hi Everyone,

I have attempted a 3d deer head cake this week. And even though I'm reasonably happy with the result, I would like to figure out the way to make antlers bigger. Has anyone tried big antlers?  Is there a way to make them out of something not eatable and light?  What about internal structural support to hold in place heavier antlers?  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, P

sure you can use an internal structure made from wooden dowel or pvc pipe and elbow joints and all that--peruse the plumbing section of home depot or your local hardware, plumbing stores

i don't think i've ever done big antlers but that is what i would use if i did

you can use foam for tips---not for main pieces but for the ends to help reduce the weight on those extended gravity defying antlers--

good luck

As far as a non edible option crayola model magic would work and it's light as air just need to give it a day or so to dry out and don't get to thin cause it does get crumbly. Would have to stress that they aren't edible but it's made by crayola for kids (actually in the kids craft section at your local craft stores) so I assume it's non toxic. I use it all the time to do molding for Halloween props
