Spatula??

Is it ok to use a silicone spatula if you do not have an offset spatula? If so how do you get the same smooth texture?

i mean as far as 'ok' -- use anything that works for you and is food safe --

smoothing a cake is an acquired skill that requires a harmony of icing consistency and expertise --

a utensil that has a nice firm straight edge that's as long as possible --hopefully as long as the cake is tall--  so one swipe gets it all from top to bottom around the sides --

a plastic ruler for example would be great for 'smoothing' -- and washable

for applying the icing if there's not a lot of tools in the drawer--a butter knife would be a good applicator --

best to you

i mean the only silicone spatulas i have seen are for stirring things --

so there may be some silicone ones that might be good but i haven't seen them yet --

the word 'spatula' covers a rather broad spectrum of utensils --
