Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the minion stand? There is a tutorial by Paul Bradford, but he makes the minion out of styrofoam and my client would like the minion to be cake.

I think my biggest question is about the supports for this? I can't quite imagine how the supports would be arranged to allow the minion to stand down through the cake below it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Is there anyone that has attempted this cake or similar? I'm this close to recommending to the client that we go with styrofoam instead of actual cake for the minion...

Did you make the standing minion cake? If so, can you offer any advice? TIA

Hi - I would suggest you save yourself a HUGE amount of hassle and make your Minion sitting down. Here's one I did last year. Just build it like you would a regular stacked cake with a domed top. HTH!

I couldnt find a tutorial for a standing minion cake but I did find one for a standing Spongebob cake which would be the same exact concept:

http://paintedacrescakes.blogspot.com/2011/02/building-sponge-bob.html

Instead of a rectangular shaped board, you would use a circle board, depending on what size cake you use. I've made minions with 6" round cakes + half of the Wilton pan and I've made a minion with 8" round cakes and the Wilton soccer pan.

Then stack and proceed as normal.

So I finished my Minion cake. My son was super happy. I am very happy that I did the Minion standing. It was my first try at a cake like this, so it was great practice.

Bobeda, I recently made a minion cake, but the woman that asked for the cake wanted the bottom to be the giant cupcake bottom with a chocolate liner, so I only had to do the top half of the cake as the minion, so my question to you is, how did you roll out the fondant and cover him so perfectly?! I didn't realize how difficult it was going to be to cover a circle cake with a dome top, so mine had two seams wear the fondant wrinkled.

I would love to know how you made it look so flawless!

AFlawless. Lol. It's not. But thank you. Cover it in two shots. Mark where you will have the goggle strap go and then roll out enough to only covered to there. Then you are basically just wrapping the cake from that line to the bottom (or just below where the overalls start). You will have a line/seam down the back but it's the back and partly covered by the overalls. Thanks again.
