Box the cake and wrap the box in several layers of saran wrap and a layer of foil.  24 hrs. before it's to be eaten, place the wrapped box in the fridge.  Several hours before it's to be eaten, place wrapped box on counter.  Right before display/consumption unwrap box & remove the cake, it will be fine.
