AStill a total noobie. This is going to be my 4th cake. It's for my uncles birthday. I was told that strawberry cake was his favorite. I think they said strawberry shortcake, but if they get anything strawberry they are lucky as far as I'm concerned. I'm trying to get in as much fondant practice as possible, and over the weekend, I did my first fondant over BC and it was hard!! So I've be reading that using a ganache would probably be better. But does chocolate really go good with strawberry cake? I would think so because chocolate covered strawberries. What kind of chocolate should I use? I have Semi Sweet, but also read to use higher quality candy bars. Would I also use the ganache to CC and to use as the ring around the filling if I choose to use a filling? Was thinking either Strawberry again, or maybe even a cream cheese filling. But I have no idea .... Cream cheese, chocolate, and strawberries, I can't picture it? Maybe Whipped Cream filling??? Ideas anyone???

How about a vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream?  Just mix some strawberry preserves into buttercream, it's delicious!

AI think he really wants the flavor of the cake to be strawberry. I do plan on making a vanilla or butter cake flavored with strawberry for Sunday though. ... That brings me to another question. What's the best fillings to use. I've heard from friends that it's almost more expensive and time consuming to make them. So I've always bought them. The Duff flavors from Michaels are all that I've tried so far. But they are yummy.
