I will be working on a "make up" cake and I would like to know how to get that metal look for the buckles on the make up bags and the metal part of the make up brushes?

paint on luster dust mixed with lemon extract or vodka. All of the alcohol will evaporate.

When you mix it with the vodka it becomes paint. I always make it kind of thick.

Has anyone tried the luster dust in royal icing? I would like to pipe some gold fillagree right on to the cake. Will it still be as shiny?

Get actual highlight powder, for a true metallic shine, like actual silver and gold. CK makes the kind I like. Luster will give you a good enough look, but for true metal, get highlighter powder. Use like luster, same method.

Do you mean mixed into the royal icing? Because that won't work so well. The luster dust will colour it a bit but you will lose the shine.

Yeah, you need paint over it once it's hardened.
