My daughter is getting married and wants me to make and decorate 150 cupcakes. I made some sample ones for her today. She didn't like the way the frosting was. She wants the frosting to go up like an ice cream cone. Any suggestions on type of tip or way to make frosting that way? Also planning on making cupcakes on Friday and then frosting on Saturday for wedding. If I place cupcakes in box over night should they be fine to frost on Saturday?
Thanks,
Shelly Peck
AHere's a diagram of icing swirls with different tips http://www.yourcupofcake.com/2012/02/piping-tips.html
Cupcakes cool very quickly and the swirl goes on fast. I'd box them up and ice them in the box as they cool rather than waiting til the next day.
I use a Wilton 1M tip for my cupcakes. It gives you that classic cupcake swirl. Sometimes I use a Wilton 2D for a slightly softer looking swirl. Also, make sure your buttercream is nice and soft - but not too soft. If it's too dry then you won't get smooth looking swirls.
If any of us aren't giving you the info you need, maybe post a picture of what she wants and someone here can advise what kind of tip it is.
And yep, I'd ice in the box as well :)
