Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site.  I am going to bake a WASC cake.  I have a 5lb box of cake mix and was wondering if anyone knew how many cups to use.

The receipe calls for 1 box of cake mix.  I have gone to different web site and some say a box of cake mix equeals 3 cups and some say a box of cake mix equals 4 2/3 cup. So does anyone know how many cups of dry cake mix to use for the receipe?

Thank you

AI used 4 2/3 cups of mix and the cakes turned out perfect.

It's probably based on a 18.25-ounce box.  I'd weigh it.

Yes, definitely weigh it out. According to a recipe I just googled, it calls for an 18 oz box.

I used 50# bags so YES! weighing is the best/easiest way to go.  And when you weigh it - use the 18 oz measure - not the new 15 oz on the current boxes.

If you *must* measure by cup I'd go w/the larger amount. Lightly spoon it into the cup.  Some people say they sift cake mix  - I tried it a few times but now don't remember my thought on that.....must not have liked it as I don't ever sift now.
