I used to lllooovvee MMF - until I bought a couple of buckets of satin ice & fondex.  The last 5-6 cakes were done with satin ice & fondex.  Tonight I'm using a batch of MMF I made a few days ago....and it is awful!!!  Noooooooo!

Ahhhh.... I just busted open my new bucket and it looks and feels and works and rolls and smooth and EVERYTHING so. much. better.  I'm done with MMF.  Simply done. Time to restructure costs...

Satin ice may have better workability but to me, it smells like playdough.  If the cake doesn't taste good (and smell good too) there's no point in indulging in a sweet treat. The way sugar messes with me - it better be darn good!

Keciak: agreed. It doesn't make sense does it. It's a dream to work with, but smells like playdough.  Wondering how ChocoPan  works, & does it smell like chocolate & not a new car seat.

AChocopan is very different. IMO, Fondx is most like MMF. On the spectrum, Satin ice is like MMF but the farthest from it before you get into the high chocolate/candy clay group. Chocopan, fondarific, & duffs are what I consider that high chocolate group. It's a whole other world of fondant.

AMMF, Fondx, Pettinice, Satin ice, messa, Carma Messas

Then Duffs, Fondarific, & Chocopan

When I walk into a place with a cake, the smell of the Satin Ice on the cake is so strong, people comment on how yummy the cake smells. Personally I'm not a fondnt eater, but after its on the cake I find people at least like the smell.

Since the price of satin Ice may come up on this thread - I'm paying $62 for a 20 pound bucket of Satin Ice. If anyone knows where to get it cheaper, please let me know. I always wonder if the food rep is giving me a decent price.

@ howsweet, global sugar art sells a 20 lb bucket for about $53, but that doesn't include shipping. I don't know if you have a place like Restaurant Depot where you are but that's where I purchase my Satin Ice fondant for $53 also.

Delicious Desserts: thanks for the informative list & putting this perspective on it.  peaks my interest in trying the other brands. I never even tried putting MMF on a cake, I buy Satin Ice locally at about $19 for a 2 lb. bucket.

so trying the Messa would be more like a super quality MMF;

& the ChocoPan would be like a more 'rollable' modeling chocolate.

Thanks you so much, that could save me significantly over the course of a year. At least $500!  I just checked online - we totally have a Restaurant Depot. I hope it's $53 here.  I've been getting it from Dawn Foods. From the website - it almost looks like you walk in and shop? I'm so tired of dealing with the food reps - would be awesome to just go in and get the stuff and be able to see the products and have prices that aren't effected by my ability to negotiate.
