AI was asked to make a vintage style giant cupcake which I agreed to and then the person changed their mind and asked for a cup shaped cake, in style of vintage cup, on a saucer. I researched it and said I could do it as it looked a little difficult but def doable. I made the plate as advised with flower paste and left it for 3 days, I carved and covered the cake with fondant last night. Today the plate has fully cracked and the fondant is sagging off the cake! It looks awful and I don't know what to do! The cake is due on Sunday and I'm at work tonight on a 12 hour night shift! If I try and recover it has anyone any tips, do I cover with fondant with cake upside down or right way up? How can I make the plate?! Or do I admit problems to client and offer the vintage cupcake at much reduced price? Thanks x

Were you able to get a picture of the cake? I'd like to see it to maybe get an idea of what could have gone wrong...

AHaven't got a picture it's currently sat in a box as I'm about to go to work! It just looks kind of sagged on one side, def a baggy fondant issue, or air bubbles that have happened as gravity has taken effect :-(

Hi Claire, I've just seen this post so I guess I've missed your Sunday deadline.  How did you get on? Hate these stressful cake situations - you take on the order because you've done your research and know it's do-able but then uncover problems at the last minute.  Horrible situation to be in, especially when you have another job to go to.  Hope it worked out for you.

AHi thanks for your support x I ended up removing all fondant and recarving the shape and recovering with fondant. Pastillage and flower paste did not produce plate I wanted so I had to improvise! I was up til 4am but satisfied with end result and felt ok about handing it over lol
