Is the Scottish thistle easy to make? I have a cake to make using scottish flowers. Any other suggestions for someone who hasn't made many sugar flowers!!?

Hi, they're not too hard to make.  You will need some purple thread, a wire and some green fondant/gumpaste.  Loop the thread round your fingers several times, then wrap the wire round.  Cut open the loop to leave you with the petals.  Make an elongated ball of green gumpaste and slide up onto the wire so that the purple threads come out of the top.  Using a pair of small scissors, make v-shaped cuts all over the surface of the ball. Leave to dry, et voila!
