Hi!

I am in search of some ways to do this certain type of basketball cupcakes that I've been asked to do.

Do I simply just dollop the tip and there it is or what?

Also, what color would you say to put into making it?

Not sure what you mean by dollop the tip? In this one they drew the line on using a #3 or 4 tip and then a star tip for the orange. I would buy the big tube of black writing icing. Making black icing is really hard.

I've never made anything orange so I can't help with that

Add some brown to orange and you will get "basketball  orange color"....many people just use regular orange.  I would use a 16 tip for the stars and as Batterup said..a 3 or 4 tip for the black.   Do the black outline first...then do the orange stars.   Have you ever used a star tip?   If not, there are some youtubes you may want to check it out for some help.

AppleMarkI

I used fondant on mine - and then used the tip of a small round piping tip to make indentations in it to give it texture...

I did the inlines first then with the star tip filled it. Once I was gone I did the lines again so I can look more like a baseball.
