AOk .. so I'm new to pearl dust and cake decorateing .. sorta .. i am makeing a more advanced mermaid cake for my soon to b 4 yr olds b day. i want the pearl dust on it to make it really stand it in certain places .. but can i use the white pearl dust on any color? Or do i have to buy every color i plan to have pearl dust on. my bufet is small right now and i didn't want ro have to buy 30 dollars of pearl dust when i will need other things as well. Will the white make any color have a white look .. or just a sheen ? I know that pearl dust has a low color .. but i would like to b sure before i go amd buy 30 different colors and find out i can use white on any color .. any help.or tips please ??

AExperiment on some fondant or white paper to see if this the look you are going for. I have dusted solid color cakes with fondant with either pearl or silver luster dust, it usually lightens it. If the luster dust is dabbed first on a paper towel with a soft paint brush and lightly brushed on it will have a sort of a glittery sheen. I've also used a luster dust brush I bought on-line and I've used a brand new blush brush to apply on large areas to cover cakes. I really hope this helps.

It should be fine on all the lighter colours - just mist it over rather than spraying it on directly. I sprayed it on a black tyre that I made for my FIL and I sprayed way too much and it went silver so I had to repaint it with a paintbrush. Sprayed lightly it just gave it a lovely shine :-) Just have a little play with it before you decide either way what you want to do. Good luck.
