Hi everybody! I am very much a novice and have a lot of learning to do, but I have family asking me to decorate cakes. One that I have been working on calls for drop flowers and rosebuds and stars. Pretty easy, I thought, so I agreed to make it. I made the flowers about two days ago and they are not drying. I have made flowers like that before and have had the issue, but it was pretty humid so I blamed their not setting on the humidity. Now it is dry and I am having the same issue. The icing is homemade buttercream with meringue powder to help it make that outer crust, but for some reason it just won't set. I am losing my patience and really just want to know what I might be doing wrong. Any ideas or help would be hugely appreciated!!!!

Drop flowers, rosebuds, and stars can be piped with buttercream directly on the cake -- no need to make ahead of time. If you'd like to make in advance to dry rock hard so you can pick them up to place, consider using royal icing, and expect to pick them off the cake before serving so nobody breaks a tooth.
