So, I have a potential client messaging me right now who wants an American Girl Doll cake for her daughter's birthday. She showed me a pic of a cake design she likes that has little pictures of each of the dolls around it. First of all, I don't have an edible printer (I knew I should have let the boyfriend buy me one a few months ago!). The other thing, can I use pictures of the dolls on my cake? I'm not sculpting the copyright dolls, I'm not using the logo, can I use an image of them?

It's probably a stupid question, but I have to ask icon_rolleyes.gif

Jason is the resident copyright "expert" around here but as the likeness of the dolls would be recognizable I wouldn't use it without written permission of the copyright holder.  I always pass along the contact info to the client so they do the legwork trying to get permission and don't get mad at us if rejected.  HTH!
