AI'm looking for a tried and true recipe. I'm not a professional baker, I usually use a box mix and doctor it to my liking. But.... I'm not opposed to a scratch recipe.

3/4 cup butter (grandma used shortening but of course I would never)
1 1/2 c  sugar
3 egg yolks
3 egg whites stiff
2 tsp baking powder
3 TBSP flour
35 graham crackers or  3 1/4 cups of crumbs
1 c milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Grease & flour pan.
Cream butter & sugar until fluffy. Stir in yolks, baking powder, and flour.
Gradually add crumbs (use mixer) Alternate milk, vanilla and more crumbs.
Fold in egg whites gently.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes but watch closely.
