No one Yet knows the difference between Store box mix and scratch cakes, Why Bother? - Page 6

Actually, my point was that my mother DID NOT make cake from a box, that is an American thing you'll find. Not being snobby at all, just trying to educate you a little that other countries do things differently. We don't have lots of things you do. Cheese in a can comes to mind. It doesn't make either of us "smarter" or "better" than the other...just different. A little bit of tolerance can go a long way.

It's the same **** made of  flower and sugar.  Chemicals or or not, cake is bad for you.  Smart people make it from a box, because it's easier.  If you have no life, knock yourselves out, and make it from scratch.  You want to believe you are better than the rest of the millions of others, but you are not.  Same  thing. Get over yourselves.  This discussion is useless.  Get a life.

Wow, so glad I read this, I had no idea I didn't have a life! I also didn't realize that doing something difficult made me dumb, silly silly scrum.

(my mother never made anything from a box, does that mean this logic doesn't apply to me?)

Relax.  On an internet forum you're going to run into people with a lot of different opinions.  That's what makes discussions interesting... different points of view.  No one thinks they are better than anyone else.  Scratch baking is not something everyone can do, so those who can do it are obviously going to be proud of it.

My mother never used a box mix in her life ,( here in Oz we call them a packet mix), she would never have dreamed of using one, why would she when her cakes are so good . Cake is bad for you if you over indulge there is nothing wrong with a slice of good cake in a balanced diet.  I have a life and still bake from scratch,I don't find it takes any more time than when I have used a packet  and I fully believe my cake is better than many others , I am just one woman so the millions is a bit of a far reach .  I agree this is a useless debate , but there is no need to be rude and swear.I must away I have two delicious scratch cakes to ganache and decorate.

Chellescakes:  My mom couldn't afford a box mix!  such an extravagant waste of money.

also, this threat introduced me to the wonderful world of WASC cakes, and I've made two already!  a happy combo of mix & scratch.

daryll: I buy Red Feather cheese in a can, and butter in a can (from New Zealand) - by the case! for earthquake emergency preparedness. See how similar we are here in Alaska.

I guess it can't just be that people who bake from scratch just prefer to do that. No no. It has to be that we all have no lives.

And half cooked rice that still manages to be gummy!

BTW, our fish sticks were finger shaped, with tons of the gross looking brown and silver parts inside...

Wow Anna...how do you burn canned green beans? lol And those meatloaf patties were not raw. We fancy folks call that medium rare...lol. I was not talking about fish sticks. Those we baked in the oven until they were rock hard. These fish are triangle shaped like Long John Silvers fish. Basically fish sticks on steroids.

It seems to me everyone here that bakes from scratch is saying to each their own. Not sure why someone is throwing a sh#t fit

I might be missing something but I don't see what you're referring to. I'm on a mobile device so maybe it's different.
I realize that this is nothing new, but I just found this particular thread entertaining. I'm a bit odd that way. icon_smile.gif
And I like cake!
