Hi all,
I am making edible decorations for cupcakes for an event 2 weeks from now, but I am going on vacation and only coming back 2 days before the event so I wanted to make all the decorations before I go and then come back and make the cupcakes/finish the project.
I usually make all my decorations out of gumpaste but in order to make these as edible as possible, I was going to try fondant or even MMF decorations since they would taste better.
I have never used MMF before and was unsure about whether these would hold up for as long as I need or if fondant would be better OR if I should just give up and stick to gumpaste
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Cool thanks. Would putting them in the freezer make a difference? Better or worse than just air-dry?
I have made MMF fiqures, then stored them in an air tight container. They were soft enough to eat, but firm enough to hold their shape. I will be doing this in the next couple of weeks for a cake I am doing. I will be back working at school and not have time to be making the lollipop/suckers for my candy shoppe themed cake.
AThe freezer is not necessary. Were you wanting to keep them soft? What are you making?
I did add some Gum Tex in the past so the MMF would hold the shape I wanted. This time I will be using Tylose powder.
They are for a bridal shower. I will be making pearl necklaces, brooches, little black dresses, purses, shoes, gift boxes, and flowers. I guess I might have preferred they stay soft but if it is not possible, I am okay with that. Sorry, I just have one more question: could I make the mmf now for all my decorations, and then keep it to cover my cupcakes in 2 weeks? If so, how should I store the mmf? I am trying to match that Tiffany's blue so I'd rather colour everything once so its the same!

Yes, you can make your MMF ahead of time. Just coat some Crisco around your "ball" of MMF, then wrap 2-3 times in Saran/Cling Wrap. Store in a Ziplock bag and try to get as much air as possible out. You may have to gently microwave it for a few seconds if it is too hard to handle when you go to use it. Just microwave a little at a time though.
