I have an order for beach themed mini cupcakes for a bridal shower. Please help me with ideas. The one thought I have is air brush half blue & use graham crackers on the other half for sand. I cant figure out what to top them with though.. Please help.. TIA..

AYou could ice them with buttercream and put Nilla cookie crumbs on them, then top with fondant seashells. Wilton has a mold that is not very expensive. http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?sku=409-2552

I did think about that but I am also making chocolate shells for the guest gift.. Do you think that would be too much of the shells?

I did think of starfish also...  I really want to try to air brush the water would you put the starfish on the water or the sand?

I was thinking either starfish or shells too, maybe even a palm tree if its not going to be too hard. I would put them in the middle of the sand and water.

AMini cupcakes aren't going to give you much surface area to decorate though.

I know that's the dilemma.. I also thought about teddy grahams with legs cut off sticking out of the water but someone brought to my attention that's a little childish..

Is she wanting elegant beach or fun beach?

Elegant beach, I think of starfish, sea shells or sand dollars and sand. Fun beach, I think of flip-flops, beach balls, umbrellas (you could even do the drink umbrellas).

There's a lot of beachy cupcake ideas on this blog.:)

AYou could ice the cupcakes flat and roll the edges in the 'sand'. Put a tiny dolphin jumping out of the center,or any of the other items the others have mentioned.

They are looking for fun beach.. I have never molded fondant before I have only used molds & I have never worked with modeling chocolate either. These things scare me a little...

AYou could make a royal icing or piped chocolate object to put on top. A sun would look nice. If you cannot do it free hand, then find an image you like, make it the size you need, fill up a document with the images (make sure to leave enough space around each, print, then put that under a piece of waxed paper and you should be able to see the image so you can trace it with royal icing or chocolate.

Chocolate molds are the cheapest and you can have really cute results. You can paint the designs with a paintbrush using melted candy melts in Different colors. Not sure how you were going to do the chocolate shells, but you can get a really pretty marbleized effect by swirling the candy melts together.

AIn the Wilton Sea Life mold there are a few options that would be small enough for you to work with. There is a shell mold that is just 1" across and two others that are 1 1/4". Those would fit onto mini cupcakes. .

Vanilla bean cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. Shells and starfish are made from white chocolate and painted with petal dusts. Sand is a mixture of brown sugar and graham cracker crumbs.

I made these using a mold.  I poured white chocolate into the molds, set them in the freezer until they set, then brushed them in petal and luster dusts.
