Do I have enough icing???...

Hi Cakers!!

I am making a large cake this weekend and need to know if I have enough icing. Here are the specifics:

12" round
9" round
6" round
All cakes are 4" in height
All will be covered in Bc icing

I made two batches of icing. One batch fills a kitchen aid 5 qt mixer bowl.
The two batches I have are for icing the cakes only. I have a separate batch for the filling.

Do I have enough? I use Sharon Zambito icing method.

Thx!!

YES you do! This cake was a 7, 10, 14, and It used a whole 5 qrt bowl (tinted) to cover it, and of course I had a bunch more to fill, dam and crumbcoat.

I use her mixing instructions, but not her recipe.

I don't know off hand..but I THINK there's a chart on Wilton that tells you how much it takes to do a cake?? I'm pretty positive of that but not 100% lol.

I hope tht helps somewhat

The rule of thumb is one batch of icing using 2# of sugar for every cake mix used.

12" round - each layer uses 1 1/2 mixes for a total of 3
9" round - each layer uses 3/4th of 1 mix - a total of 1 1/2
6" round - each layer uses 1/3 to 1/2 of a mix so figure 1

So you need 5 batches of b'cream each made w/2#s of sugar.

here is rose's chart based on the number of cups of BC needed.

5 quarts is 20 cups. I can make a double batch of IMBC in mine, it comes to 9 cups, when its finished.

two layer refers to a 4 inch tier.

you need to know how much frosting each batch makes, not just go by your mixing bowl size, unless it's filled to the rim

My batches fill the mixer. That is Sharon zambitos method.

Icing fills to the rim
