I just read a thread that you do this on wax paper and transfer to the cake.  But, can you write directly on the cake?

Many, many yrs ago a great book was written by Elaine Gonzalez(sorry can't remember how to spell her name:(

It's all about using chocolate and includes a chapter on using it for writing.  If you can get your hands on a copy of it you would be one lucky person!!

All one needs to do to thicken it up *slightly* is to add a tiny drop of water to a couple of tablespoons of melted chocolate and it should 'sieze' up enough to write with.    And if I remember right, you need to keep the tip slightly warm (cover *just the tip* w/a warmed cloth when not in use).
