I live in another state from my family and my mother and a friend of mine both have a birthday coming up. I want to send them something and I know that they have always loved a special cupcake recipe I have. I don't want to send too many (maybe a half a dozen to each one) but does anyone have any ideas for how they might make them there safely? I don't know if this is something to even try to be honest. I haven't decided on the decorations so if a certain kind travels better please let me know! 

AI always shy away from mailing baked goods when I don't have to but there are a few options. I once mailed my husband cookies and they ended up a crumbled mess.

1. Treat pops. (No, not cake pops.) The tubes that Wilton sells. You make mini cupcakes or mini whoppie pies and you can put them the tube with frosting.

2. Freeze the cupcakes, but them in domed cupcake containers, and send them very quickly. (In this Florida summer heat, not really a good option.)

3. Send them the cake mix in a mason jar. Write a list of the wet ingredients that need to be added and they can make them.

4. Mason jar cakes. I sent this to Afghanistan once and it showed up as yummy and moist as when I made it. I sealed it as if I was canning something. Just make sure to bubble wrap the jar.

AGive it a shot. They will love the gesture even if they arrive messed up. I would bake then slice them in half horizontally. Then put the icing between the halves. Put them in a clam shell container, place in a tight fitting box and send them priority mail.

AFrom scratch,sf (she has a new name now) has a blog post about how DC cupcakes mails there's. maybe take a look at it and see how you could do some version of it. She suggests that it's overkill so you may not need to do all of that.
