What Do You Wear On Your Feet While You Work?

AJust wondering about what others choose for footwear while standing for hours at a time. I need to buy some new shoes and am actually a little overwhelmed! Do you have a particular pair of shoes that helps prevent the joint and back pain of just standing for so long? I know I need protection on my feet too. I have dropped things on my feet a little too often to be working in sandals!
AI really like aisics (sp?) they have a great shock absorbing technology that really relieved my knee and foot pain. My doctor says aisics are a great brand too. They aren't the prettiest shoe, but that means that their design money goes into the ergonomics, not the looks.
I feel like I've tried every shoe and every insert, trying to get a good combination. I've finally settled on a new pair of Skechers Agility Kick Backs that are honestly the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned--and the only pair to which I've never had to add additional inserts.
I also stand on a gel mat and I make myself sit down with my feet up every 2 hours for no less than 10 mins.
AI invested in a really good pair of Nike Free Trains. They fit similar to socks but of course to tennis shoes. So light.
I think my feet are claustrophobic because I hate wearing shoes (unless it's cold of course) so I wear squishy flip flops and use a floor mat.

I hate hate hate shoes, I kick them off as soon as I come in the door, but when I am in the bakery, the best shoe I have found that helps at all is a high heel sandal I have. It makes my knees feel great, for about 4 hours, then I switch to my padded skate shoes, for skate boarding because I work longer than 4 hours.... I am still looking for something better though. I use gel mats and sit on stools when I can. I have 4 stools in my bakery, all for me!
AThanks for all your feedback. :) MimiFix, what kind of shoes are those? I hadn't thought about standing on a mat; that is a good idea. Sitting down frequently is a good idea too, but sometimes I get lost in what I'm doing and forget everything else! (I have to make a point of remembering to drink water, too, or I get a terrible headache by the end of the day.) My old favs wore out and I had been wearing a pair of comfy flip-flops. Then I dropped a stack of cupcake pans on my foot. Ouch! That was a couple of months ago and it still hurts a bit.

I wear Landau Rx. They are The Most Comfortable. They are also very light weight. Not only do they come in several colors, they are very inexpensive (normally $30-38).
I found them while working in a lab. I prefer them over Dansko & many if the other non skids.

ANo way. I would rather be barefoot than wear shoes, but as far as working goes, I need good shoes. My poor feet can't handle the abuse sometimes. You bet that when I am not working, I'm wearing flip flops. Even in winter... Except when it's time for stilettos - I'm all over it.

My husband sleeps with his socks on, then gets hot and takes them off under the covers and leaves them there!! *gasp* Drives me insane! If I accidentally touch one in the middle of the night, it freaks me out.

Oh yeah, that is nasty to think of my husband's feet! He is always digging at them, and I make him wash his hands after. If we are in the shower together and someone steps on the plug and the water starts to back-up, I think of my feet being in the same water as his feet and almost have a panic attack!
Speaking of socks, when I am on my feet, I like the sort of socks that have tight band in the middle, on the arch. But that is the only time I can wear them, otherwise they drive me crazy.

I'm with you wearing Asics. I love the light weight and I add inserts. I also have a gel mat.
I don't stand for nearly as many hours as some of you do. My issue is my feet are just weird! I wear heels (usually 4-5 1/2") every day for my full time job. I wear platform flip flops in the summer months these are usually 3" or higher (the whole thing is that high, they are not wedges). I've tried expensive, cheap and every kind of sneaker over the years and none of them work with my feet. If I wear sneakers, my feet ache really bad after just a half hour time. I'm better off going bare foot, b/c that doesn't hurt then.
I run a concession stand for my daughter's swim team and even in the dead of winter I'm wearing my flops there (mind you it's a million degrees in the pool). When I'm there, I'm standing for about 5 hours unless we have the year end meet, then I'm there for 8-9. My feet never hurt at the end of the day when I wear my flops, but if I wore my sneaks for that long I'd be in PAIN!

Has anyone had experience with Sanita Professional clogs? I've really been thinking about investing in some good shoes, as after a full day in the kitchen my knees and hips are KILLING me. Not to mention my feet themselves. I was looking at Danskos, but saw some negative reviews since they switched manufacturers. Sanita is the original maker of Danskos, and they have some good reviews.
Right now I'm wearing some slip on Crocs that are a size too big and flop up and down, but my feet feel better in them than my Easy Spirit sneakers.

These 'beauties' (ugh) are what I wear. I refuse to wear socks, and these are pretty good without them. Pretty comfortable and great support.
I was wearing a pair of Mary Jane style Merrells for ages, they were awesome, I think I will actually switch back to them for the rest of the warm weather.
I just ordered myself a pair! I am hoping that these will alleviate some of my issues.
