I know a lot of people on here has done the Ruffles Cake inspired by Sharon Wee.  I have tried it serveral times without getting the end product I need.  I always cover my cakes with MMF never use the stuff from the stores or online.

I am having problems getting the ruffles to stick I have used water and gumglue but its still not working.  My fondant Im using to make my ruffles is wilton and Im rolling it as tin as I can but it will not stick.

WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I DOING WRONG? PLZ HELP MEicon_sad.gif

Could you possibly be using too much water or gum glue. Sometimes, that will cause the fondant to slide off. What about applying a thin coat of melted chocolate (or candy melts) to the strip? That stuff seems able to hold up just about anything. I've never made a ruffle cake but I've used it to hold up heavier flowers or other gum paste pieces.

Another thought: are you rolling your fondant strips out with shortening? That could stop it from sticking.

I thought about that and started using just enough water to get the back of the ruffle sticky but it still slides.  I havent used crisco to roll out the fondant because I knew that water and oil dont mix and I knew it would not stick.

The Ruffles are made from Wilton? How about using the MMF you make instead for the ruffles? Then all you need is a thin strip of water. Also, I flip my tiers upside down to apply the ruffles, maybe that makes a difference. Good luck to you!

Also, I forgot to add that I roll out the fondant in crisco or else the cornstarch shows on the ruffle. I apply the water and it sticks great! I suppose piping gel would work too.
