Hi all,

My daughter graduated last month and due to illness we put her party on hold until August. She requested that her cake incorporate something to do with Edgar Allan Poe or his writings. She loves Winnie the Pooh, too, and I found this cartoon below, that I thought was great, but I am struggling with a coherent idea. I am not stuck on the cartoon, but I did like the humor of it. I just want to create a graduation/going to college theme with Edgar Allen Poe primarily, adding Pooh would be a bonus.  She will be studying Graphic Design, if that helps.

Thanks,

Kathi

I just did a cake for someone who wanted a bunch of different things that I couldn't conceptualize how I would combine and pull off...plus she wanted the cake aqua and gold.  So I did a tiffany box (2 actually stacked) and a gold charm bracelet with all the things that she wanted (guitar, graduation cap, college mascot...) Don't know if that would work for you but it's an idea.

I think an 'Edgar Allen Pooh' concept would be pretty amazing.

Something along the lines of the 'Doctor Pooh' cake from Nerache.

Classic Poe characters/environments in Winnie the Pooh style!

How about something like this http://bigreadblog.arts.gov/?p=6852 with the Pooh character dressed like the cartoon?

savannahquinn, that is a cue idea, except my daughter is a tomboy, so this would not fit her at all.

TheNerdyBaker, wow!  I have never seen hat site before....very cool! I would love to do something along these lines, but how would I incorporate the graduation/off to college theme?

bct806, This is also a cool idea.  I can sort of see how to add grad/college into this, since there is a book...have to think on that one.

Maybe a title along the lines of "The Complete College Tales and Adventures of ___________(your daughter's name)"

bct806 and Lynne3, I am going to think on this idea. I like it a lot, just not sure if my daughter will love it.  Does anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks,

Kathi

BatterUpCake, she's not so into "flat cakes".  If I could add some dimension that is edible it would work.

Wow, Lynne3!! I may have to play with that idea! The patterns would definitely appeal to her "artsy side".

Great ideas from all of you!
