I need to make a full sheet cake with one side being white and one side being chocolate.  I cannot fit a full sheet cake pan in my oven, so I need to use 2 half sheet cakes.  How do I put the 2 cakes side by side on a board so they don't separate after I frost the cake?  Do I frost the joining sides?  Will that do it?

Thanks!

Terry

Make sure you have a board that big.  I have put 2 - 12 x 18 cakes/doubled with filling together, its a big heavy cake...not sure if you are doing a single layer.  I was able to just crumb coat and fill in good any areas in the seam to make it all look like one cake...then I frosted it and it worked beautifully...if you are doubling the layers be sure your board is really strong.  Good luck!!

I have done this 4 times in the last two weeks.  I bake two half sheets and put them side by side on a full-sheet board.  Be sure you let the cakes settle before doing anything else.  I let them settle overnight, then put on board, trim if needed, then ice.  Trim tops for height (or rounded top) and be sure the sides are vertically straight where they will meet.  They need to be pushed together really well.  Then ice as usual.
