Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has tried dipping/painting white gum paste flowers and then using petal dust over the paint (photos would be great!).

I want to make a stockpile of gumpaste flowers that I can color as I need them. However, petal dust is sooo expensive and I don't want to waste a jar trying to get a deep, yet still natural looking color.

I have also thought of making flowers in the usual base colors (i.e. pre-tinting gumpaste in light red, yellow, white, green, pink, orange) and then petal dusting those as needed. BUT, this method means I have to keep a lot more flowers in stock since I won't know which color I'll be needing.

thanks in advance for your feedback!

For light colors, you can make white flowers as a base and then color with petal dust. I did that for the pink rose in my galleries. For darker colors though I'm not sure if the petal dust will work.. I think that for dark colors you will have to color the gumpaste first!

Also I have used luster dust and vodka mix to paint on the flowers which gives it a mix more rich effect and isn't so subtle. hope that's helped!
