I did one of the giant cupcake cake's for my daughter's first birthday and it turned out great! I did the bottom with melted chocolate brushed in the mold, then cake inside, and swirled buttercream on top. Looked really polished, and she had a ball digging into the buttercream on top.
I'm thinking about doing another one of these for a gender reveal party this coming weekend...but the goal would be for the whole cake to actually get eaten. Any tips for the logistics of doing this when the cake needs to be cut into? We can do a pretty cut on top for the gender reveal pictures obviously, but then to serve the rest of the cake, won't the base just crack and fall apart funny?
Thanks so much for the help!
AHi there,
Just dip your knife in hot water, wipe it off and slice. It'll cut cleanly through the cake and chocolate base
HTH
Also, make sure the chocolate is brought to room temp. Tha last few slices may be messy, but hey, it still tastes great and you have the photos. lol.
