Hi everyone! Well, today has been a very exciting day. I found out that one of my cakes is going to be featured in the next issue of Cake Central Magazine! I can't show it to you here but I will be featuring it in my blog this Sunday. I'm just very happy to have the opportunity!

Other than that I had cupcakes for my son's Little League:

I also have the two 6 & 8 inch stacked cakes for his school's 6th Grade Graduation due Tuesday night so baking for those begins tomorrow. I have to make the fondant for the hibiscus cut outs and surf boards to decorate simple buttercream iced cakes tomorrow morning. So, basically, I'm in a one day lull and just get to hang out here and enjoy whatever you guys share tonight!

Congratulations catlharper! That's so exciting, can't wait to see your cake! icon_smile.gif

I'm working on a pirate cake for tomorrow (almost finished, but I needed to stop looking at it for a few minutes) so I'm trying to find a tutorial for rock candy to make a "pouring" root beer mug cake for next week. Any tips on the rock candy and wrapping it around the dowel would be greatly appreciated!

The edition is simply outstanding! There are SO many pages to this one and SO many amazing cakes. You can get a digital copy for only $2 here: http://shop.cakecentralmagazine.com/

If you do, my cake is on page 65.

Sadly I know nothing about the whole rock candy thing. I have made poured sugar before and I would guess...just a guess here...that if you let it begin to cool till it's thickened you could, theoretically, pull it up out of the pan. Hopefully someone will have something more concrete for you tonight. If not I would go and find a cake here where they have done that and PM them to see how they did it.

For my daughter's preschool end of the year party, she was in the Robins class ;) Still have a hard time with tappit...but learning so much from all of you!

That's what I was thinking. I might try to pour it out on a silicone mat and wrap it that way...

Very cute cakeddc! I love your robin!

Pirate cake done! YAY for an early night!

Cat, how exciting! I don't have a subscription but maybe I'll buy your issue!

sixinarow, sorry, I can't help with your question, either icon_sad.gif.

cakeddc, that is an adorable cake!

My cake for the week is done and delivered. I already posted a pic in another thread but this is a slightly better one. It went great until it was time to cover it in fondant and I had an "OMG, how am I going to do this?" moment but, with help from my CC community, it turned out fine. Odd delivery, though...I had to leave it in the back room because the reception wasn't set up yet. It's a one room venue so they were going to have to tear down the ceremony set-up and re set for the reception. The staff at the venue asked me where the "big cake" was. I had to tell them I had no idea as I wasn't hired to do the wedding cake, just the groom's cake. I do hope "the big cake" made it icon_lol.gif. It's white cake with raspberry buttercream.

Here it is pre-decorated...

And this is the pony, the clip art I used to cut it out and copy the shading. My fondant version is in the back on the red mat.

Elcee!!! I totally LOVE your cake! We are a "Ford" family and have a particular fondness for Mustangs so yup, love your cake! I hope the Brides cake arrived too!

As for CC Magazine, yes, you can just get the one issue. It's definitely worth the $2!

Your copy of the mustang is outstanding -- identical to the printout! I just read your thread about covering it in 1 piece, it looks great! There's no way I could get all those nooks and curves without cracks or folds!

Good Evening everyone!

Congrats Cat, that is soo awesome, I can't wait to see it! I will for sure buy the digital issue!

CakeDDC I swear by them too. I find they work best when the fondant is dry...not tacky or sticky.  I use lots of powdered sugar on the table, both sides of the thinly rolled fondant and I even dip the letter I am about to use in the powdered sugar. Brush off the sugar with a paint brush after they firm up a bit. And Voila that should do it.

Elcee: Looks fantastic! I am SURE I would have had a ton of tears around the nose and tail for that one. I read your comments on another topic you had posted on; Water with the fondant fixes tears..... do tell! I have never heard of that before and I am so very intrigued:)

Sixinarow: I LOVE pirates! I don't know anything about it:) sorry.

This week is a little slower I guess. Delivered a Lorax cake and a Big Bow cake this morning. The big bow was inspired by Royal Bakeries purple one. Customer sent me the picture but want it pink and green. Working on a Thomas the train right now. Cake is filled and smoothed and anxiously awaiting decorations. I will do that in the am though as the cake is not due until mid afternoon. Other than that, just have a couple Ladybug and Daisy Cupcake orders and a giant cupcake. But they are basically finished as well.

Thanx Ginn!

I have no weeks off this month. June is my crazy month. It started out as not so bad...4 cakes, busy but not crazy. Then a client changed her date to the last day of June AND a baby shower cake got added...now it's 6 cakes and one of those is being made in a borrowed kitchen out of town. SIGH. The upside is that I will have a lot of work to share with everyone this month! LOL!

I Was working on a Mr Tumble cake for a friend's twins' birthday.  I really struggled to get the figure to work as I didn't want to make it out of gumpaste in case the girls wanted to eat it, but I was ill the day I should have made it and the fondant didn't dry as much as needed so he ended up looking a bit more drunk than clown!  Never mind - my friend was thrilled!

A two-tier cake with a Mr Tumble theme for twins' second birthday.

Brettley, it doesn't really fix them, but it's a way to hide small flaws in your fondant. Most of the time it's not worth the hassle unless it's a competition cake or something that needs to be perfect. Just melt a little fondant and water until it gets very soft, almost liquid and use it to fill in the flaws and them smooth it with a small palette knife or fondant smoother.

You're cakes are fantastic. I love your work!

Cat, I got the magazine last night...great cake and great theme! Beatrix Potter stories were my daughter's favorite when she was little. She especially loved Mrs. Tiggywinkle.

I have no idea who Mr. Tumble is but I think your cake is totally cute. I love the cake/cupcake presentation too! I hate using gumpaste as well so I usually make my figures at least 2 weeks ahead of time out of fondant so they have time to really dry. That way if someone wants to eat the figure then I know it will taste good.

Thank you Gerle and Elcee! This months magazine is wonderful....not just because of my cake...but because of the Beatrix Potter theme and how many cakes they featured!! It's a wonderful collection for any Beatrix Potter fan to enjoy. However, I'm simply thrilled my cake and my little "guys" made it into the magazine!

ACakeddc, that robin is precious.

Sixinarow, that is just adorable!

Elcee, wow! Amazing as usual.

Brettley? That sweet cake makes me wish I had a daughter. Love those colors.

Lizzie, that cake is just too cute!

Great cakes this week!

My week was filled with Charleston Brodal association spread. I made a small 2 tier with dogwoods, triple chocolate espresso cookies, decorated sugar cookies, peanut butter cheesecakes, & key line cheesecakes.
