AI have been making cakes for over 20 years, self taught decorator. I never charge enough for my cakes and people take advantage of me. I need help.with pricing. I have been asked to make a bar mitzvah cake for 90 people, sheet cake with Choc frosting ..they don't want fondant. Very plain with stars on it probably double 12x18. Should I charge per person?

I charge $80 for a double layer 12 x 18 just frosted with a border piped on.  This is a way easy cake for me to put together so I don't price it per serving.  I charge more if there is a more expensive filling inside. HTH icon_smile.gif

AThank you. How do you price custom cakes?

ACheck out the pricing formula link in my signature for more info on how to price.

Our half-sheet double layer cake (12"x18") starts at $119, and we use generous serving sizes to estimate 38-58 servings for this size cake, since single layer cakes are usually cut by the customer or a guest at the event. For 90 people I would probably recommend two half-sheet cakes unless there will be other desserts or if the venue will be cutting smaller slices.
