I'm making a friends wedding cake next month and they have settled on a design they want. It involves flowers, pillars and fondant drapes. I have attached their sketch of how they'd like it to look.

The flowers and pillars are fine. But I haven't done long drapes on a wedding cake before. And I was wondering if there are issues involved when they drape across pillars? I was planning on using 3" pillars, so not too high, and the cake tiers would be 4" high. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find an example of long drapes with pillars between tiers.

With this design, it also means I'd have to place the drapes on after I set up the cake on site, so any tips on that aspect would be great too!

AI have never done this before but here's my two cents. I would do three separate drapes and i would add a little gumpaste or tylose to the fondant. As far as doing it on site. I would be sure and take a card table or something you'll be able to use as a work surface to roll out the fondant on, just in case there isn't an available surface. :smile: as far as the draping itself, I would practice before I tried to do it on site and be sure to allow plenty of time to do what you need.
