Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I am making some mini cakes for my mum's birthday, I am planning on using fondant to cover and making flowers to decorate, i have been practicing on shop bought cakes but i am unsure on what cake to use & having read so many different ideas (freezing, adding sour cream etc) im abit confused.

Could anyone reccomend a cake that will hold up to decorating please :)

BTW i live in the UK so i have a limited range of products.

Thanks in advance

Since I'm in the US, I don't know if the recipes I use would have ingredients readily available overseas. Check under the Recipes forum and scroll down to see if anyone has posted recipes for UK bakers! :)

Sorry I can't help!

Thank you for your reply :)

I think i'm just going to make a madeira cake as it's already quite dense so it should be okay.
I guess it's trial and error :)

A madeira cake will be fine. Any cake (perhaps apart from a really light sponge) will be fine. icon_smile.gif
