Ateco 612 Or Ateco 613 Cake Turntable ?

Hello everyone !
I've got what I hope is a great question !
I'm looking for a good quality turn table for cakes, and see 2 models I'm interested in.
The Ateco 612 - an older style cake turntable with a very heavy base,
but it seems it needs to be oiled very often, is prone to wobbling.
Then there is the newer Ateco 613, which is more modern looking, looks like the base is
a little lighter than the 612 model, and also has stainless steel bearings.
At this point I don't want to order a turntable without asking here first.... it would be a hassle to find out I ordered the wrong one.
I do want a sturdy turntable, but I've seen some posts about the model 612 being wobbly, and that you must oil often.
The 613 seems to have a better system, using ball bearings ( nowhere on any website do I see anything about ball bearings being used on the 612 model )
So, at this point, I'm asking, and hoping somebody can give me some helpful info !
Thanks for listening !
I look forward to any help !

Definitely go with the ball bearing model. It runs a LOT smoother. I can't imagine choosing the other one.
But if you really want to ask, Ateco is still in business in NY. atecousa.com and you should be able to find a contact link.
Hi BakingIrene,
do you actually own the Ateco 613 ? just curious. I'm assuming so, since you seem to know it is smooth,
but maybe you have just seen it.
Ateco's site is terribe :-(
none of their links work, and a link on their main page says something about something back in 2006... that's 7 years ago. Yikes, seems their website hasn't been updated in a long time. Even their email doesn't work.
Thanks for any info about the smooth thing :-)
AI have had the fat daddios stand for 3 years now and love it! So smooth. Has never failed me and I don't do any kind of maintenance on it. Best investment ever!
Hi kvand,
what model do you have ? is it a steel model ?
would you be able to provide me a link to it ?
thank you !
This is the one I have (well I think its the new version of the one I bought 3 years ago.- mine has a grey coated top but is definitely a cast bottom. It's really heavy but it makes it crazy sturdy.

Hi kvand I bought mine awhile back, I love it. I wouldn't want it to drop on my foot though . It is really nice for large cakes, spins like a dream. PieMaker I know you would love it. It is one of my most prized investments along with my KA.

No problem! hope it makes your decision making easier. Its a good chunk of money to spend so you want to make sure you get one you will like. GSA sells them (I think that's where I ordered mine from) You will not be disappointed by this turntable! Good luck!
AHi, I was also researching turntables and had the same question. This informations was very helpful and I tried to get the Fat Daddio's, but is not listed on the website. I called the company waiting for a call back. Did you end up getting the Fat Daddio's or did you go with the Ateco 613? Was curious what you thought...
Thank you!
If you call Ateco, ask them which one can handle the most weight. If it's not the same, I'd go with the heavy duty one.
Mine is a Bakery crafts one like this below. The base is cast iron and will probably out live me. Haha, it looks like Buddy Valastro likes it, too. I promise, that would not have been a factor. Sorry, that's just the first picture I found. I think several of them may be the same and the maker offers sellers a cast iron base made with their logo.
I bought the 612 which has been problem free honestly. I don't think you could go wrong with either but unless you use the stand daily or as part of your business, you could save a bit with the 612 (I think).
